The new iPhone 3G was announced at WWDC 2008, and it will soon to be available worldwide. The original iPhone did not turn out to be the God Phone that Apple fans were hoping for, plagued by a slow EDGE connection and dumb designs like a recessed headphone jack. Could the iPhone 3G be the answer? I don’t think so.

From Metal to Plastic
Are you kidding me Steve? The fantastic metallic back of the original iPhone, that has a sleek look and solid touch, is now replaced by a cheap-looking fingerprint-prone glossy black/white plastic. I call this a downgrade! And you wonder why the iPhone 3G is cheaper.

Can't be a 3G Modem
Almost every phone out there can be hooked to a laptop and act as a GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA modem. Not true for the iPhone, and probably iPhone 3G as well. If you want to surf with your laptop in a non-WiFi area, better carry a 3G modem with you, or you're out of luck.
3
Sending Files Over Bluetooth is not Possible
No mentioned of improved Bluetooth connectivity during WWDC, chances are it's not possible to transfer files over Bluetooth. Almost every phone out there could do so!
4
No Bluetooth Syncing
Same as point 4. If the Bluetooth features remain the same, then syncing or sending files between your computer (yes, even a Mac) and your iPhone wirelessly via Bluetooth are still not possible.
5
Narcissistic People Look Elsewhere
Same crappy 2-megapixel camera. And no front-facing camera, which means no 3G video calls.
6
Still Lacking
Still no MMS. Still no video recording. Still no copy and paste.

GPS? Ha!
Looks like iPhone 3G does include a built-in GPS receiver. Thanks to the commenters below for the update.
Don't be fooled, my friends. This is Assisted GPS we are talking about, not real integrated GPS receiver. That means it makes use of known nearby WiFi hotspots and cellular towers to estimate your current position. It cannot give you the pinpoint accuracy of a real GPS receiver.
Hmm. Not real GPS? What are you talking about. A-GPS is only used if inside out of range of GPS.
G: Check out the specs here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
It says Assisted GPS, it is not a GPS receiver.
A-GPS is a more reliable GPS model http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGPS It uses more than just GPS information to determine your location even in places where GPS fails (such as in between tall buildings).
agps is gps but when out of satellite coverrage it uses celltowers to pin point location. Check out wikipedia my friend…..
For the record, I’m *NOT* a fan of the iPhone and I can’t disclose why I’m not.
A-GPS is the real deal. A-GPS means Assisted GPS. The assisted piece means that it requests ephemeris data from a PDE (position determining element) from the cellular network so it doesn’t have to dload that crap from the GPS satellite transmitting at a horrid 1200 baud or something similar. It just means that it needs network assistance to make a GPS location every hr or 2 (forget the interval), but the accuracy is still GPS.
You were referring to some other type of trangulation such as AFLT or one of the other tower triangulation methods (I don’t think there is one that uses WiFi to triangulate your position). Those types of locations are crappy.
A-GPS just means that if you don’t have a cell tower, your GPS won’t work… but it’s still GPS.
I think do you not read at all, but in any case. The IPhone 3G support GPS ( SAttelite) and A-GPS. The difference is that provide localization info inside tunels with mobile network
Second, as many of us are under NDA we can not tell you what of all of what you state are right or not, but most of the affirmation are wrong.
You don’t know what you’re talking about. A-GPS is a superset of GPS. Perhaps we should start a list of why this list sucks.
GPS Details: http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/gps.html
Not apologies from the author? It’s now 6 items… It’s ok to be wrong, just admit it.
Oh wait…down to 5. Thanks for the update.
Erm… from metal to plastic? The existing iPhone is a shiny silver and very PLASTIC back.
#2 …..
wrong, Im posting from my tethered iPhone right now. The 3g one will most likely follow the same suit.
thats rediculous ahmed… (1) metal to plastic, also gives you a lighter phone. Plus its not just any plastic, its tough stuff that they use on the macbooks… (2) 3G modem - You do not need to use it as a 3G modem because it already has the best mobile browser on any phone out there! (3) bluetooth file sending - why would you need to send files over bluetooth, when you can easily attach them to an email, I do it all the time. (4) Bluetooth syncing… you do not need to do this because they now introduce “mobileme” which syncs everything automatically over the net directly to your home comp. or laptop! (5) No front camera… yes that sucks, but anyways that is restricted in the US by the FCC (6) Still no MMS - NOT NEEDED BECAUSE U CAN EMAIL STUFF, No video recording - THIS MAY BE COMING, WE HAVE NOT EVEN SEEN ANY OF THE NEW APPS OR GAMES TO BE RELEASED YET FROM 3RD PARTY DEVELOPERS!!!
worst list ever. how bout 6 reasons to post a retraction.
HA HA @ APPLE FANBOIS WHO hack THE PHONE AND CLAIM IT IS WORKING CORRECTLY.
if you have to jailbreak your device to unlock and use the features you want, guess what…IT WASN’T INTENDED TO DO IT.
I can hack my blackberry to do things that you would never imagine, does it mean you cna walk into a store and do the same thing…no…therefore you are just a clueless loser justifying your overspending on a device that is 4 year old technology.
oh, and for the record, the GPS is the EXACT SAME gps that verizon/sprint/att currently use on devices, it’s not new, it’s over 2 years old. but yet again, if the iphone did it…it must be NEW!!!
/yawn
gimme the thunder, it will have everything you have to HACK your phone for…out of the box.
(i shoudl state: i’m not an apple fantatic!)
At the keynote, i thought it was mentioned that a doctor could “iphone to iphone” pictures, no? so how would that be? via bluetooth or wifi, surely? That sounds good enough “squirting” to me!
This article should be titled “I know nothing about the new Iphone.”
K: The iPhone in front of me right now sure looks very metal to me. Even if it’s truly a plastic like you said, it sure LOOKS 100% more metal than the new glossy finish.
casey: Tethering via WiFi is not the same as tethering via Bluetooth or cable. Even tethering from Bluetooth vs cable has a major speed difference as tested on my Nokia N95.
Omar: (1) I for one would prefer looks over a marginally lighter phone. (2) It may be the best mobile browser, but there are still people who likes to do serious work and surfing outdoors on their laptop. (3) Because the other party might not have a data subscription and cannot receive the file on the spot. (4) What if you want to sync outdoors and there is no WiFi for your laptop? Since your iPhone 3G can’t act as a 3G modem for your laptop, you can’t use MobileMe now can you? (6) Same reason as (3).
There is a lack of intelligence here. Ipod doesn’t seem to be a phone for the business type. I mean, blackberry has very nice features which is oriented more for business. The keyboard is so much better that the on-screen one the i-phone has. I don’t deny that teh i-phone has very nice things(I plan on getting it) but it is a shame that some features included in many mobile phones are not included in this one. I use bluetooth on my cell phone frequently to transfer data. Video conferencing I believe will come in the next generation iphone for sure. They seem to be staing behind on new technology. I mean realtime tracking - GPS has been out for a while and yet wasn’t there for the i-phone.
I’m pretty sure it’s all marketing. They do it on purpose so people get more hyped for the next gen phones. Who knows…
Peace
i like you website.. keep posting stuff man =)
I agree in 2 points with this list. First the camera sucks which doesnt really bother me. However it is unbelievable it doesnt work as a modem. I dont know if this was a issue in the phone design or this was made on purpose but I hate this and I dont know probably it would be a driver in the decision to go for it or not.
One reason I don’t like my current iPhone is the fact I cannot paste an e-mail address, or contact info into either an SMS or email. I really think they need to do this sooner rather than later.
Wake up Apple :), apart from that I’m happy with the device.
Bluetooth is a weak point for the iPhone. I have an Acura MDX and wanted to give up my blackberry for the iPhone but according to handsfreelink ( http://staging.handsfreelink.com/findaphone.taf ) the iPhone lacks even the most basic of data synchronization and handsfree features needed in most cars today !
I do not see much use for MMS but would love to get voice dialing/command and video capture.
Also, what would be the big deal for them to add a micro-SD memory slot ? I guess the greedy people at apple thought that it would prevent people for purchasing higher capacity iPhones (since they could just get the memory card to hold there extra data).
http://www.iphonebuzz.com/iphones-bluetooth-is-dumb-purposely-crippled-or-both-151188.php (see the list of Bluetooth profiles not supported by the iPhone at the bottom)
You can use tether APP’s to use internet from phone onto laptop I was doing it, then apple got ride of APP so I jailbroke iPhone and got the APP again.
HAHA poor apple fan boys. Your new phone sucks. ATT 3G sucks worse, anyone who will take 1 min to simply look at 3G coverage will realize that. Take another 1 min to google all threads of drop calls, etc. on non-phone phones and you have a recipe for disaster.
The iphone is just a cool phone for those people who dont really need a phone I guess.
Losers.
i always can not access to internet, even if i connected , but is very very snow, i phone 3G sucks, i really wanna sue iphone, anybody wanna sue iphone with me???????? damn this is the worst phone i ever got in my life, expensive and sucks
it can be used as a modem(tethering)
you can send mms
you can record video
We have been an ebay power seller and paypal confirmed seller of wow gold for years.
Look at all these fools defending the iPhone because they do not want to admit that they made a horrible investment. Good job Apple tools.
You are not missing anything with the iPhone 3G. I got one yesterday and I’m not impressed. I have the Motorola s9 Bluetooth ($125.00) stereo light weight headset that will only sync in phone mode not stereo headset with the iPhone. Wow my new 3G iPhone suddenly feels broken. I even asked the f***ing question at the AT&T store will the iPhone work with the s9 headset (which they sell) and was told it would (never said it will but only phone mode). The stereo headset works with less expensive phones!! I did some reading and found out that I should of done more homework than I did before buying.

Sure I can buy this appendage (a Bluetooth adapter to make my $300.00 >>>Bluetooth<<< iPhone) WORK but what a bulky eye sore JOKE.
